panhandle
Beg on streets
A panhandle is a narrow strip of territory projecting from a larger region, shaped like the handle of a pan: the Texas panhandle, the Florida panhandle.
The verb panhandle means to beg for money in public places, typically by approaching strangers on the street: He panhandled outside the subway station.
A panhandler is someone who does this regularly.
