mudras

Yoga hand positions

Mudras are symbolic hand gestures used in Hindu and Buddhist religious practice, yoga, and classical Indian dance.

Each position of the fingers and palms carries specific meaning—some represent deities or concepts, others are believed to direct energy flow in the body.

In yoga, mudras accompany meditation: She held her hands in chin mudra, thumb and index finger touching.

The singular is mudra.
