box breathing
Square-patterned respiration
Box breathing is a stress-reduction technique in which you inhale, hold, exhale, and hold again for equal counts—typically four seconds each—forming a "box" pattern.
Used by military personnel, athletes, and therapists, it activates the parasympathetic nervous system to calm anxiety and sharpen focus: I did some box breathing before the interview.
