missal

Catholic worship book

A missal is a book containing the prayers, readings, and instructions for celebrating Mass throughout the year in the Roman Catholic Church.

Before Vatican II reforms, the missal was the essential guide for priests conducting the liturgy.

Laypeople may use smaller versions called hand missals to follow along during services.
