paten
Chalice's flat companion
A paten is a shallow metal plate, typically gold or silver, used in Christian liturgy to hold the bread or communion wafer during the Eucharist.
It usually accompanies a chalice.
The word appears almost exclusively in religious contexts: The priest placed the host on the paten.
