psalter
Devotional hymn collection
A psalter is a book containing the biblical Psalms, often arranged for liturgical use in worship services.
Medieval psalters were among the most elaborately decorated manuscripts, featuring illuminated letters and miniature paintings.
The term now refers to any collection of psalms bound separately from the full Bible: The monks chanted from an ancient psalter. (Capitalized Psalter may refer to a specific edition.)
