rescue mission
Emergency extraction effort
A rescue mission is an operation to save people from danger—extracting hostages, recovering disaster survivors, or retrieving soldiers from hostile territory.
The term also refers to a charitable organization providing food, shelter, and spiritual guidance to homeless or destitute people, typically with a religious foundation: The downtown rescue mission served three hundred meals on Thanksgiving.
