minehunter
Naval explosive locator
A minehunter is a naval vessel designed to detect and destroy underwater mines.
Unlike minesweepers, which drag equipment to detonate mines, minehunters actively locate individual mines using sonar, then neutralize them with divers or remotely operated vehicles.
They're typically built with non-magnetic hulls to avoid triggering magnetic mines: The minehunter cleared the shipping lane before the convoy arrived.
