falling
Dropping through air
Falling is the present participle of fall, used as adjective, noun, and verb form.
As an adjective, it describes something moving downward or decreasing: falling leaves, falling prices, falling temperatures.
The noun falling appears in compounds like falling-out (a quarrel that damages a relationship) and falling star (a meteor).
Falling in love describes the often sudden, uncontrolled experience of becoming romantically attached to someone—the metaphor suggesting one doesn't choose it so much as succumb to it.
