linework
Illustration's structural skeleton
Linework is the lines in a drawing, illustration, or design, considered as a distinct element of the composition.
The term appears most often in tattooing, where clean linework—steady, consistent strokes—distinguishes skilled artists: Her linework is flawless.
In comics and illustration, linework refers to the ink outlines before color is added.
