Heimlich

Abdominal thrust eponym

Heimlich refers to the Heimlich maneuver, an emergency technique for dislodging an obstruction from a choking person's airway.

The rescuer stands behind the victim and delivers upward abdominal thrusts below the ribcage, using the sudden pressure to expel the blockage: She performed the Heimlich on him when he started choking on a piece of steak.

Named after American physician Henry Heimlich.
