tourniquet

Emergency limb band

A tourniquet is a device wrapped tightly around a limb to compress blood vessels and stop severe bleeding.

Traditionally an improvised band of cloth twisted with a stick, modern tourniquets use straps and windlass mechanisms.

Apply the tourniquet above the wound.

Emergency responders and soldiers carry them for trauma situations where direct pressure won't control hemorrhage.
