left turn

Opposite of right

A left turn is a turn that takes you to the left, the direction of your non-dominant hand if you're right-handed.

In countries where traffic drives on the right, left turns cross oncoming traffic and require more caution than right turns.

Figuratively, to take a left turn is to change direction unexpectedly: The conversation took a left turn when she mentioned the divorce.
