delamination
Plies coming apart
Delamination is the separation of layers in a material that was bonded or laminated together.
It occurs in composites, plywood, coatings, and layered structures when the adhesive bond fails or when moisture, stress, or impact causes layers to pull apart.
In medicine, delamination can describe tissue separation, as when cartilage peels away from underlying bone.
The delamination of the carbon fiber panel compromised the wing's structural integrity.
