laminated glass

Shatter-resistant window material

Laminated glass is safety glass made by bonding layers of glass with a plastic interlayer, typically polyvinyl butyral.

When broken, the fragments adhere to the interlayer rather than scattering dangerously.

Windshields use laminated glass; side windows typically don't.

The bullet cracked but didn't penetrate the laminated glass.
