karate chop
Edge-of-hand blow
A karate chop is a sharp, downward strike with the edge of the hand, fingers extended and held together.
The blow originates in martial arts but appears frequently in action movies and playful mimicry: He gave me a karate chop to the neck.
To karate chop something is to strike it this way: She karate chopped the board in half.
