clap

Hands strike together

The commonest use of clap, noun and verb, is as the more usual way to say applause or applaud.

But you can also clap one thing to another by bringing it there with force (clap your hand on his shoulder), and there are claps not involving hands, like a clap of thunder, so called for the characteristic sound it produces.

To clap your eyes on something is to see it and pay attention.

An unrelated noun clap is slang for gonorrhea.
