jive

Hipster talk, maybe

Jive covers several loosely related meanings.

Originally it named a style of fast, swinging jazz music and the energetic dance that went with it.

Jive also became slang for deceptive or nonsensical talk: Don't give me that jive.

To jive someone is to tease or mislead them.

The adjective jive means phony or worthless: a jive excuse.

Jive is often confused with jibe, which means to agree: That doesn't jibe with what you said earlier—though jive increasingly appears in this sense too.
