shimmy
Vibrating dance move
A shimmy is a rapid side-to-side shaking movement.
The dance shimmy—popularized in 1920s jazz clubs—involves vibrating the shoulders or hips: She did a little shimmy on the dance floor.
Mechanical shimmy is unwanted vibration, especially in wheels or steering: The car developed a shimmy at high speeds.
To shimmy is to move with such motion, or to edge somewhere by wriggling: He shimmied up the drainpipe.
