east coast swing
Jitterbug dance style
East coast swing is a partner dance that evolved from Lindy Hop in the 1940s, simplified for ballroom instruction.
It uses a six-count basic pattern with a rock step and triple steps, danced to swing, rock and roll, or big band music.
The name distinguishes it from west coast swing, a smoother, slotted style that developed later in California: We took east coast swing lessons before the wedding.
