jive turkey

Dishonest smooth talker

A jive turkey is a person who talks nonsense or acts foolishly—someone untrustworthy or full of empty boasts.

The term emerged from 1970s Black American slang, where jive meant deceptive talk and turkey was already an insult for a stupid or inept person.

It sounds dated now, often used nostalgically or for comic effect: Don't listen to that jive turkey.
