dozens
Quite a few
Dozens means an indefinitely large number, roughly in the range of twenty-four to perhaps a hundred: Dozens of people showed up.
The literal meaning—multiples of twelve—rarely applies; the word simply conveys "many" with a sense of scattered abundance.
Playing the dozens is a form of ritualized insult exchange, especially in Black American culture, where participants trade escalating put-downs about each other's mothers.
