jerrycan
Portable fuel jug
A jerrycan is a flat-sided metal or plastic container for storing and transporting fuel or water, typically holding about five gallons.
The design features a handle on top and a spout for pouring.
Originally a German military invention, the container proved so practical that Allied forces copied it during World War II: We strapped two jerrycans to the back of the jeep.
Also spelled jerry can.
