stockwhip

Australian herding tool

A stockwhip is a long whip used for herding livestock, especially cattle and horses, primarily in Australia.

It has a short handle and a very long braided leather thong, typically 6 to 10 feet, ending in a cracker that produces a loud snap.

The crack drives animals without contact: He cracked the stockwhip to move the mob along.
