intubation

Emergency airway procedure

Intubation is the medical procedure of inserting a tube into a patient's airway, typically through the mouth or nose and into the trachea, to maintain an open passage for breathing.

It's performed when patients can't breathe adequately on their own, such as during surgery under general anesthesia or in emergency situations.

The paramedics performed intubation at the scene before transporting the patient.

The procedure requires skill and specialized equipment, and difficult intubations can be life-threatening emergencies.
