stylet
Thin surgical needle
A stylet is a slender, pointed instrument.
In medicine, it's a thin wire inserted into a catheter or needle to maintain rigidity or clear blockages.
In biology, stylet refers to piercing mouthparts of insects like mosquitoes and aphids, or the sharp reproductive organ of some invertebrates.
The word also applies to any small, stiletto-like probe: The surgeon guided the stylet through the cannula.
