Ways of understanding
Interpretations is the plural of interpretation—explanations or understandings of meaning.
A text, event, or artwork may have multiple interpretations: Scholars have offered competing interpretations of the passage.
In performance, an interpretation is how a musician or actor renders a piece: Her interpretation of the sonata emphasized its darker passages.
Legal and constitutional interpretations determine how laws apply.
