inscribing

Etching into surface

Inscribing is the act of carving, engraving, or writing words or symbols onto a surface—typically something durable like stone, metal, or the front pages of books.

A jeweler inscribes initials inside a wedding band; an author inscribes a dedication to a friend.

In geometry, inscribing means drawing one figure inside another so that they touch at specific points: inscribing a circle within a triangle.
