nib

Quill's writing tip

A nib is the pointed tip of a pen—the part that touches paper and delivers ink.

Fountain pens have metal nibs; dip pens have replaceable ones.

Nib width affects line thickness: a fine nib for detail work, a broad nib for calligraphy.

By extension, any pointed tip may be called a nib.
