Typing is the act of pressing keys to produce text, whether on a typewriter or keyboard.
The word covers both the skill and the activity: Her typing speed is impressive, I could hear typing from the next room.
In biology, typing means classifying by type: blood typing, tissue typing.
As a gerund of "type," it can refer to any act of categorizing.
