unconscious mind
Below awareness processing
The unconscious mind is the part of mental activity occurring outside conscious awareness—memories, desires, and impulses that influence behavior without our knowing.
Freud popularized the concept, distinguishing it from the preconscious (retrievable memories) and conscious mind.
Her fear of abandonment stemmed from the unconscious mind.
The term appears in psychology, psychoanalysis, and everyday speech about hidden motivations.
