infielder

Shortstop, for one

An infielder is a baseball or softball player who occupies one of the four defensive positions in the infield: first base, second base, shortstop, or third base.

The term distinguishes these players from outfielders and the battery (pitcher and catcher): The manager shuffled his infielders to cover the bunt.
