relay throw
Cutoff man's toss
A relay throw in baseball is a throw from one fielder to another who then throws to the final destination—used when the distance is too great for a single accurate throw.
An outfielder retrieving a ball hit to deep center makes a relay throw to a cutoff man, who then fires home.
The term applies in other sports where intermediate throws connect distant points.
