immobilizer
Device stopping motion
An immobilizer is a device that prevents something from moving.
In automotive contexts, it's an anti-theft system that prevents the engine from starting without the correct key or electronic signal: The car wouldn't start because the immobilizer didn't recognize the replacement key.
Medical immobilizers hold body parts still during treatment or recovery.
