stalagmites

Limestone floor formations

Stalagmites are cone-shaped mineral formations that rise from the floor of caves, built up over millennia by dripping water depositing dissolved limestone.

They grow upward from the ground, unlike stalactites, which hang from above.

When the two meet, they form a column.

The cave tour wound past massive stalagmites taller than a person.
