snowbelts
Lake-effect snow zones
Snowbelts are regions that receive heavy snowfall, typically areas downwind of large bodies of water where lake-effect snow accumulates.
The term most often refers to parts of the northern United States near the Great Lakes: Buffalo sits in the snowbelt and regularly gets buried.
The spelling varies between snowbelt and snow belt.
