abseiling
Climbing down ropes
Abseiling is descending a rock face or other vertical surface by sliding down a rope in a controlled manner, typically using a friction device attached to a harness.
The technique is used by climbers, rescue workers, and military personnel.
Americans usually call this rappelling.
We spent the afternoon abseiling down the cliff face.
