hypertrophic

Excessively grown tissue

Hypertrophic describes something that has undergone hypertrophy—abnormal enlargement or excessive growth, typically of an organ or tissue.

The term appears most often in medical contexts: hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a condition where the heart muscle becomes abnormally thick.

Hypertrophic scars are raised scars that form when the body produces too much collagen during healing.

The word can apply to any tissue that has grown beyond its normal size, whether from disease, overuse, or other causes.
