keloid
Scar gone rogue
A keloid is a raised, often shiny scar that grows beyond the boundaries of the original wound.
Unlike normal scars, keloids continue expanding into surrounding healthy skin and rarely flatten over time.
They result from excessive collagen production during healing and are more common in people with darker skin tones: The piercing left a keloid on her ear.
