hot rods
Customized speed machines
Hot rods are cars modified for speed and acceleration, typically older American models with souped-up engines, custom bodywork, and lowered suspensions.
The culture emerged in 1940s California and remains associated with drag racing, car shows, and nostalgic Americana: He spent weekends working on his hot rod.
To hot-rod is to drive fast or modify a vehicle for performance.
