suicide doors
Rear-opening car doors
Suicide doors are car doors hinged at the rear edge rather than the front, opening toward the back of the vehicle.
The name comes from the increased danger if a door opens while moving—wind catches it and flings it wide, potentially ejecting passengers.
Popular on luxury cars through the 1960s, they've made occasional comebacks: The Rolls-Royce still has suicide doors in back.
