Big rig vehicles

Semi-trucks are large commercial vehicles consisting of a tractor unit pulling a detachable trailer.

The "semi" refers to the semitrailer, which has wheels only at the rear and rests on the tractor's fifth wheel coupling when connected.

Also called eighteen-wheelers, big rigs, or simply semis: A semi-truck jackknifed on the interstate.
