hemisection

Cutting in half

Hemisection is the act of cutting something in half, or the resulting half.

In medicine, it refers to surgical division along the midline, particularly of the spinal cord: hemisection of the cord at T10.

In dentistry, it means splitting a multi-rooted tooth to remove a damaged portion while preserving the rest.
