curettage
Surgical cavity scraping
Curettage is a medical procedure in which tissue is scraped or scooped from a body cavity using a curette—a spoon-shaped surgical instrument.
Most commonly performed on the uterus to remove tissue after a miscarriage, for diagnostic purposes, or as part of an abortion: The doctor recommended a D&C—dilation and curettage.
Curettage is also used to remove skin lesions or clean infected bone.
