quarterstaff

Long wooden weapon

A quarterstaff is a wooden pole roughly six to eight feet long, traditionally made of hardwood like oak or ash, used as a weapon in medieval Europe.

It was wielded with both hands, using strikes, blocks, and thrusting motions.

The quarterstaff appears frequently in Robin Hood legends, where Little John famously defeats Robin in a duel on a log bridge.

He trained daily with the quarterstaff until his movements became fluid.
