bo staff
Long fighting stick
A bo staff is a long wooden staff used as a weapon in martial arts, particularly in Okinawan and Japanese traditions.
Typically about six feet long, it's used for striking, blocking, and sweeping.
The term is somewhat redundant—bo itself means staff in Japanese—but bo staff has become standard in English martial arts contexts: She practices forms with a bo staff.
