vinaya
Buddhist moral training
Vinaya is the Buddhist monastic code of discipline, one of the three divisions of the Pali canon.
It governs the conduct of monks and nuns, covering everything from daily routines to serious offenses that could result in expulsion from the community.
The term extends to the texts containing these rules: She spent years studying the Vinaya.
In broader use, vinaya can refer to moral training or discipline in Buddhist practice generally.
