semicha

授予拉比资格

Semicha is rabbinical ordination—the formal recognition that a person is qualified to serve as a rabbi and render decisions on Jewish law.

The term comes from Hebrew, literally meaning "leaning" or "laying on of hands," referring to the ancient ritual of transmission.

A rabbi who has received semicha can answer questions of religious practice, lead a congregation, and teach authoritatively: He studied for years before receiving semicha.
