beit din
Jewish religious tribunal
A beit din is a Jewish rabbinical court, traditionally composed of three rabbis who adjudicate matters of religious law.
It handles disputes, conversions, divorces, and questions of Jewish practice.
The term comes from Hebrew meaning "house of judgment." The convert appeared before the beit din to complete her conversion.
Also spelled bet din or beth din.
