mannerism
Signature behavioral quirk
A mannerism is a habitual gesture, expression, or way of speaking that's distinctive to a particular person: His mannerism of tugging his earlobe when nervous.
The word often carries a slightly critical edge, suggesting the behavior is affected or excessive rather than natural.
In the plural, mannerisms refers to someone's collection of characteristic quirks: She had picked up her mother's mannerisms. (Capitalized Mannerism is the art-historical style.)
